Viva Magenta! Embracing Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2023 in your Home

Pantone’s Colour of the Year has been revealed as Viva Magenta, a deep carmine pink that sets the stage for brilliant, bold colour throughout the home in 2023! An “unconventional shade for an unconventional time”, this nuanced tone of crimson delivers a knockout punch of verve, optimism and fearlessness.

It’s a colour that really vibrates with vim and vigour, that demonstrates a new signal of strength, which is something we all need for a more optimistic future. – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Colour Institute

The thought process behind Pantone’s choice is one which resonates with many right now, with a brave, buoyant mood just the refresher we need as we head into the New Year. So, with vivacious shades of pink due to dominate interior mood boards, we asked our design experts for their best tips on embracing joyful, on-trend brights within the home.

Bringing Brights into your… Living Spaces

It’s not just the vibrant pinks which are growing in popularity within the home – more muted tones like Farrow and Ball’s Setting Plaster, Dead Salmon and Sukling Room Pink have been topping popularity charts for the past year or more.

“Shades of pink have been popular in 2022, and it looks like this is only going to increase with recent news,” agrees Cari Bateman, Senior Designer at Neville Johnson.

But how might we go that extra step and embrace bolder tones in our living spaces? “We can see this colour being used as a wonderful accent piece amongst more neutral designs in larger communal spaces within the home,” confirms Cari.

Cari’s suggestion is the ideal way to embrace all the joy and vivacity of colour, without feeling overwhelmed.

Bringing Brights into… the Bedroom

The ability of daring pinks to brighten a day is undeniable, but how to embrace these tones in the bedroom, where the agenda is rest and repose? Why not explore our design expert’s ingenious idea above, and play with vibrancy in your dressing room instead?

The beauty of using a bold colour behind closed doors is that you can enjoy its richness and fortitude after a restful night, and emerge reinvigorated day after day. This sophisticated dressing room is the perfect illustration of how you can create a statement space and introduce fashionable colours in a bespoke way.

Painted in Watermelon Pink, an exclusive magenta-based shade from our palette, this walk-in wardrobe features custom-built storage set off with subtle downlighting and glass shelving for showcasing treasured possessions.

A gentler touch… try “Coral Rose”

For homeowners looking to strike a subtler note, our newest shade “Coral Rose” is a stylish and uplifting option – and works perfectly alongside another interior trend, colour drenching, in this stunning walk-in closet.

Seen as especially transformative in smaller rooms, colour drenching involves taking one colour and using it across multiple surfaces in a space – from skirting to walls to ceiling.

With all surfaces blending into one, the colour drench effect tricks the eye into seeing the room as larger than it is – whilst also looking incredibly modern and engaging.

Here, our expert designer worked closely alongside the homeowner to match walls, ceiling and custom-made cabinetry, creating a fabulous contemporary space.  Bespoke floor-to-ceiling shelving maximises every inch of height, giving an illusion of spaciousness and a reality of ultimate practicality.

Alongside this, a mix of open and closed shelving, accessories drawers, hooks and hanging rails provide an optimal storage combination, while hidden spotlights create a little well-deserved drama around the homeowner’s most treasured items. Explore more of this design here.

“Fitted wardrobes are the perfect solution for individuals looking to store lots of clothing items without dominating too much space in the bedroom,” advises Simon Tcherniak, Senior Designer at Neville Johnson.

“The big advantage of fitted wardrobes is of course that they can fill the space and cope with any idiosyncrasies.”

With an impressive colour palette of more than sixty colours, fitted furniture by Neville Johnson is custom-designed and handcrafted to perfectly suit your unique style and preferences.
