The ‘Jewellery Box’ Dressing Room: Explore Erica Davies’ Stunning Walk-in-Wardrobe

When stylist, author and fashion icon Erica Davies contacted us about a new dressing room, safe to say we were just a little excited to take on this project with her. Erica is known for her love of maximalism! Bold colours, prints and patterns dominate her fashion and interior style, so we knew this design would be a perfect opportunity to showcase exactly what Neville Johnson can do.

As a busy working Mum, Erica wanted this dressing room to be a space purely for her. Somewhere fun to escape to, where she could home all of her voguish possessions. After outlining her brief to one of our expert designers, and working alongside him to curate her dream dressing space, we’re thrilled to showcase the final design.

We spoke to Erica about her experience with Neville Johnson and her journey to finally getting this gorgeous dressing room as part of her full bedroom renovation.

What was it that attracted you to speak to Neville Johnson?

“Our bedroom renovation was a huge project for us, something that we waited a long time for, and I wanted to make sure the dressing room was going to be built to last. Neville Johnson’s quality speaks for itself and I already knew they were known for this, however it was their use of colour that really pulled me in. I’d seen a couple of designs that I just loved, this is what inspired me to contact them. The fitted library painted in their stunning blue colour and the dressing room in Watermelon pink were the two that caught my eye. I really love that they’re not afraid to push the envelope when it comes to embracing colour.”

What was your brief for your design and what aesthetic did you want to achieve?

“I wanted to create a ‘jewellery box’ of delights! Simon, my designer at Neville Johnson, was excellent at embracing exactly what I wanted in his drawings. The space isn’t huge, so we needed to maximise every inch of it. I wanted to pack as much in as I could, while still ensuring it was practical and beautiful. While I had a pretty good vision of what I wanted, i.e. bold, bright and beautiful! Simon was excellent at offering bits of advice on certain features that I hadn’t even considered before.”

What made you opt for a bespoke solution?

“I just really wanted to maximise the space and I knew I wouldn’t achieve that with anything free-standing or even by just hanging some rails up. We counted and measured every item I wanted to store before finalizing the design so we knew everything would fit! The solution features closed drawers for jewellery and sunglasses, as well as shoe storage, bespoke hanging rails and open shelving for grab-and-go items like jumpers and tees. There’s no way I could pack as much in this space with just free-standing furniture. Plus, I knew a bespoke design would always be used and add value to the house in the long run.”

How did you find the design service?

“I found the design service excellent from start to finish. Simon immediately understood my aesthetic and vision and it was lovely to work with him on it. His experience meant he could cleverly add depth and extra details such as the concealed push drawers and hook details. Simon remained involved throughout the whole process to ensure the design that we created together, was executed to perfection!”

How was the installation process?

“The installation process couldn’t have gone smoother. There were two fitters involved who worked so hard! They were courteous, polite and left the room in perfect condition when they left. Everything was completed in one day, and they were extremely tidy and professional. Not only that, but the design itself has been installed with meticulous precision. From the soft close drawers, to the integrated downlighting, the whole design is flawless.”

Are you pleased with the final design?

“I’ll keep this one simple. I couldn’t be more delighted! The dressing room is exactly what I wished and asked for. Neville Johnson have done an impeccable job and I would recommend them to anyone looking for quality in their home.”
