Following 2017’s fresh shade ‘Greenery’ which has been progressively popular in both interiors and fashion, Pantone announced its 2018 colour of the year as Ultra Violet. A brave move away from neutrals, this vibrant uplifting purple shade communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking towards the future. Unexpected and bold this new hue is set to make a splash on interiors over the next year.
A colour you might not necessarily reach for when decorating your home, this distinctive purple is actually associated with mindfulness and meditation creating a calming zen environment, perfect for lounges and bedrooms. We’ve styled our contemporary bedroom with Ultra Violet soft furnishings and lilac tones adding a burst of colour and personality.
There’s no doubt this playful colour will be injected into everything from statement armchairs to characterful painted walls. If you don’t want to fully commit to the colour, think about adding Ultra Violet accents through small accessories, such as vases and changeable artwork, or add adventurous soft furnishings injecting energy into the room. This bold purple works best with other complementing shades such as lilac, mauve, blues and mustard, softening the overall look. What do you think about this brave colour choice for 2018?
