Our House Beautiful Award For Best Storage

Last month we celebrated with the very best in homes and interiors at the annual House Beautiful awards. The prestigious awards were held at the historic Savoy Place, where we were greeted with champagne and canapes in the most beautiful room filled with fresh bouquets of flowers.

After eagerly sitting through other categories, the event reached a climax when our innovative Sudbury concept was awarded silver in the best storage category! We’re delighted this truly stunning design has received the recognition it deserves.

The multifunctional space was created by our Neville Johnson expert designer Simon Tcherniak. Highly skilled at visualising and creating bespoke furniture solutions, the Sudbury concept was not only designed to be aesthetically beautiful but also includes endless display and closed storage solutions, integrated media space as well as an ingenious concealed desk area, maximising the use of the available space.

Awkward shapes can cause a real problem when trying to make the most of a room. The client wanted to create an elegant functional backdrop to this informal lounge area. A storage solution for books, pictures, personal artefacts and keepsakes.

Before beginning any work, Simon discussed the brief with the client to understand their aspirations for their furniture. After the initial consultation and working collaboratively on the designs, he created this stunning bespoke bookcase and storage area that delivered exactly what the client was looking for, transforming this informal lounge into a relaxing space for the whole family.

Floor to ceiling storage which fits up to the vaulted ceiling creates a dramatic impression. This extra-tall feature opens up additional room that wouldn’t have been utilised with a standard bookcase. The elevated solution is accompanied by a painted oak ladder to enable easy access to the upper levels.

“We wanted to create something that uses all the space and draws your eye up, emphasising the height of the room. The Sorrel paint colour helps to make the room feel light and spacious, whilst the soft green back panels and ladder add personality.

The design includes a desk with a stationery drawer, suspension filing and a printer on a pull-out shelf. There’s room for a music system with a turntable and of course a space for the TV. The client knew that the more we could fit into this wall the more uncluttered the rest of the house would be.” – Simon Tcherniak

Colour Inspiration

The contrast of our neutral Sorrel paint with the Aloe Vera green allows for a contemporary colour palette. A selection of contemporary light vibrant blues and greens helps to make this multifunctional room feel light and spacious perfect for unwinding after a busy day.
