Carrie Bradshaw’s Dream Dressing Room – Designed by Neville Johnson
“I like my money right where I can see it, hanging in my closet.”–...
When fashion icon Rachel Stevens began her dressing room renovation in her new home, she turned to Neville Johnson to bring her vision to life. The result is a serene, perfectly tailored space that combines elegance, organisation, and emotional comfort.
In this exclusive case study, Rachel shares the creative journey behind her new dressing room and why working with the Neville Johnson team felt like working with family.
The journey began with spotting a beautifully designed dressing room on Instagram, which was exceptionally personalised and full of character. After discovering it was the work of Neville Johnson’s Senior Designer, Simon Tcherniak, the design left a lasting impression. For Rachel, it was the beginning of creating a space that felt both inspiring and personal.
The project she had admired was Erica Davies’ signature pink dressing room, a creative, personal space that had made waves on social media.
That sense of individuality and the ability to create something truly personal resonated deeply with Rachel, and helped shape the collaborative journey that followed.
At the start of the project, Rachel imagined a dressing room with a darker, more dramatic feel. But as she began to reflect more deeply on how she wanted to use the space, and more importantly, how she wanted to feel in it, her vision began to evolve.
That emotional clarity became the turning point. The design became rooted in mood and a desire to create a sanctuary. A place where she could start her day feeling grounded, or retreat in the evening to unwind.
This shift reshaped every aspect of the design brief. From colour palette to layout, the room was tailored to offer a sense of stillness and simplicity. The result was a space that feels effortlessly elegant, nurturing, and uniquely personal to Rachel.
What truly impressed Rachel throughout the design journey was Neville Johnson’s meticulous attention to detail and our thoughtful approach to the space. From the very first meeting, it was clear that Neville Johnson brought not only design expertise, but a deep understanding of how to make a room work while blending beauty with purpose.
The design went far beyond surface-level decisions. Every element was carefully considered: the height and depth of shelves, customised compartments for accessories, and wardrobe sections tailored to the exact dimensions of Rachel’s clothing. Nothing was off-the-shelf and every detail was bespoke.
Just as important to Rachel was the collaborative nature of the process.
While Rachel focused on the emotional and visual side of the brief, softness, serenity and style, Simon brought structure and functionality. Together, they created a room that was not only visually stunning, but completely in sync with how Rachel lives and feels in her home.
The final result is more than just a dressing room; it’s a true sanctuary. Bathed in light and layered with soft, calming tones, every inch of the room has been thoughtfully designed to reflect both form and function. It’s a space where Rachel can begin her day with intention or simply enjoy a quiet moment to herself.
Beyond the stunning design and flawless functionality, what made the project truly special for Rachel was the experience of working with the Neville Johnson team. From start to finish, the process was seamless, supportive, and deeply collaborative. It was a creative partnership that felt both professional and personal.
This sense of connection and care shines through in every detail of the finished room, making it not just a beautiful space, but a joyful one to live in.
For her, the dressing room is more than a project completed, it’s a sanctuary born from collaboration, creativity, and genuine warmth.
