Pantone Colour Of The Year 2019 – Living Coral
This month Pantone announced their colour of the year, and once again it’s an unexpected shade that’s bound to shake up our interiors. Last year we were taken by surprise with the marmite colour Ultraviolet, before that Pantone announced its fresh shade ‘greenery’ which continues to be a firm favourite for many. This year Pantone has reawoken our senses with ‘Living Coral’ (or Pantone 16-1546) a vibrant, life-affirming shade that is bound to pop up everywhere from interiors to fashion in 2019.
The environmental conversation over the past year has influenced the colour, Living Coral, embodying our desire for comfort and playfulness. It represents the way in which we experience our natural and digital realities, how we get energy from nature, crave interaction, warmth and social connection. Coral reefs themselves naturally provide nourishment and shelter from shifting environments, something Pantone wanted to embrace when choosing the shade.
There’s no doubt this playful colour will be injected into everything from statement armchairs to characterful painted walls. If you don’t want to commit to the colour fully, think about adding Living Coral accents through small accessories, such as vases and changeable artwork, or add adventurous soft furnishings injecting energy into the room.
