The entrance to Mizuno’s boardroom is via twin, solid oak doors featuring a heavy grain detail. Within the room the skirtings and window sills are of matching solid oak timber. This was the first thing our designer noted on entering the room for a first meeting to discuss design ideas for a new boardroom table and trophy cabinet and this was the basis on which the design proposal went forward.
Mizuno has offices worldwide and need video conferencing capabilities to interact with overseas offices, presentation facilities and the ability to reconfigure the room for occasional large meetings. Neville Johnson called on their commercial Audio Visual partners to design the best solution to fulfil Mizuno's technical brief. The main board table was then designed to incorporate all of the technology, with the twin end supporting legs actually being cupboard units, rack-stripped to accommodate all of the hardware, and with power and communications ports in brushed chrome being cut into the table top. Hidden cable trunking compartments were then designed beneath the table top to ensure that all the unsightly cabling could be organised and hidden away from sight and touch. Two peripheral tables were designed for adjoining meeting rooms that could be added to the main table to create a board table almost 7 metres in length, and a matching down lit trophy cabinet finished off the room. By matching the wood grain and final colour stain to the existing solid oak features, the new furniture seamlessly blended into the surroundings.
